Apple headquarters

I am writing this entry at the Apple headquarters. I am attending SVMUG's monthly meeting.
The iPhone has just been released. It's said that someone is gonna talk about the iPhone.
BTW, Apple has a nice auditorium!

The iPhone got released

On the iPhone day, June 29th, 2007, I stood in the line to see the iPhone at the Palo Alto Apple store. I arrived at the store at 5:30PM. I saw TV crews from a least three TV stations. There was a big crowd in front of the store. The line was stretched out to the residential area.

At around 7PM, I went in the store and played with the new Apple toy.
I browsed my Japanese blog.

iPhone: the day before at the Apple stores

I went to two Apple stores since I was in the neighborhoods. There were already people lining up for the iPhone at the San Francisco store.

MacWorld 2007, Report 4

This is the last report from MacWorld 2007.

I got this case right away when I saw it. I wanted the blue, but the blue was a little too dark. It didn't look nice. I got the red. It's on my MacBook now.

MacWorld 2007 Report 3

This is the third report from MacWorld 2007.
I saw this product last year at MacWorld 2006. I don't know the quality of the speakers and the sound, but if I didn't have a stereo system at home, I might just get this. I think they have a white one to match the white iPod.

Shinsaibashi Apple Store

All the Apple Stores that I have been to look all the same. They keep the same design for the exterior and interior of the buildings, they layout of products, and so on. I guess all the Apple Stores all over the world have the same design. That's interesting. Every county has different look one from the other, more or less. Apple Stores need to stand out enough to be easily spotted, and give people good welcome feelings.

The design of this stairway is the same as the one in the San Francisco Apple Store.

One week has passed, Apple

The power button on my PowerBook was really failing to do what it's supposed to do, turn on the machine. I took it to the Genius Bar to have it fixed last week. I asked the Genius behind the Genius Bar if the turn around time is 1 to 2 weeks, or even more. He told me that the machine would be back in 1 week and I would get a phone call from the store. I was like, Wow! That's a good job, Apple!
1 week has passed. I haven't received a phone call saying it is being delayed. No updates.

Once I got used to the service in Japan, this kind of service is a little annoying. I should get at least a phone call saying it's being delayed and they're shooting a new date. They are still fixing it!

Can't make an appointment with the Genious Bar?!

I needed to bring my PowerBook to a Genius Bar, which is an in-store tech support. I called the nearby Apple store, and was told that they don't take appointments over the phone. I was told to make an appointment online. Okay, my PowerBook has a power failure, and does not boot up. How could I make an appointment online!? Fortunately, I have more than one personal computers, and made an appointment with a Genius Bar. But I know some people who have only one computer, doesn't have friends with Internet connection to ask a favor, and doesn't know an Internet cafe or such places. What are they supposed to do?!

I was at the Genius Bar in the nearby Apple store and saw a lady rejected by a Genius guy behind the bar counter. She didn't have an appointment. She was told to go to one of the Mac computers in the store to make an appointment. I saw two Genius guys available just waiting for no one. It was a bad service. He could have bent the rule a bit and helped her out.

Sometimes all the slots are taken within the next few hours, and your earliest appointment is a few hours away. If you couldn't make an appointment online because your Mac didn't start up, and you didn't have any access to Apple's web site, you decide to directly come to a Genius Bar and ask for help, and end up with waiting for a few hours on busy days. Apple, you should do something about this!

Mac new TV commercials

New TV commercials for Mac started to air last night. There seem to be six of them. We can check them all out here, http://www.apple.com/getamac/ads/
"Viruses" and "Network" are very funny to me. I like the stuff that the Japanese lady says at the end of "Network".

What is going to be released from Apple on April 1st?

I heard this year is Apple's 30 year anniversary. People say they are going to release new video iPods or new iBooks with an Intel chip inside. Are they doing it this Saturday? My friend told me Apple did anniversary product releases on April 1st in the past. I want a MacBook Pro 12 inch!

New Mac Mini and some speakers for the iPod

The new products released a couple of days ago are the Mac Mini and.... some speakers for the iPod. I don't really care about the speakers. I think Apple should put more focus on their main products instead of speakers.

My main concern is the next version of the 12 inch PowerBook. Is Apple making a 12 inch MacBook Pro? Or is it going to be the 13 inch iBook only?

2006 MacWorld at San Francisco

I went to MacWorld held currently in San Francisco. I have see many booths selling accessories for the iPod product line. I guess the iPods and Macs are getting popular in Korea and China or Taiwan because I saw some reporters from Korean and China or Taiwan.

The most interesting release is the MacBook Pro with a Intel chip.

The CPU speed seems a lot faster than the PowerPC. This model doesn't support double-layer DVD writing. It doesn't have an internal modem and a Sudden Motion sensor. I am guessing that the double-core CPU chip takes up more space than the PowerPC CPU, so they had to remove these features.

Another law suit against Apple?

Some time ago, I received a form for the $50 Apple store credit. It was the result of the iPod battery class-action lawsuit. I read online that some PowerBooks are having RAM slots damaged or disabled when the OS is updated to 10.3.9, 10.4.0, or 10.4.1. I just updated my OS from 10.3.9 to 10.4.0 and then to 10.4.3 a few weeks ago. I have just checked "About my Mac". Oh, good, it says it recognizes 1.25GB.

I heard the some new 15 inch PowerBooks are having issues with the screen.

I like the OS as well as the iPod so far. Hopefully, Apple can improve the quality of these products.

iPod that plays video

Finally! Apple has released an iPod that plays video. I was thinking they would do that, but one time I heard that they denied it because the network was too slow to accommodate good quality video stream. The price is not so much compared to my 2nd generation 40GB iPod, which was $499!
